David Lewis Spalding, 83, of Rogersville, MO passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

He was born on January 23, 1934 to Dr. Wilbur and Helen Spalding. David completed his undergraduate work at the University of Missouri and graduated from Medical School at the University of Kansas in 1959. While in Kansas, David fell in love with and married Paula Steinborn. After Medical School, David joined the Air Force, serving as a flight surgeon. He then returned to KU for his residency in Ophthalmology. He then moved to Springfield in 1965 in Private Practice Ophthalmology at St. John's Hospital until his retirement in 1998. David was a past Secretary of the Greene County Medical Society, past President of the MO Ophthalmological Society, and a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilbur Spalding.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Paula Spalding; son, David P. Spalding; daughter, Pamela Spalding Morrison; grandchildren, David P. Spalding, Zachary P. Spalding, Joshua Spalding, Brendan L. Thibault (Ashley), and Clayton B. Thibault; and great-grandchildren Payton Spalding and Rowan Thibault.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
