David William RuBert died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at his home. David was the son of Joyce Rubert and the late Euell J. Rubert. He was a native of Springfield and a noted musician with numerous original compositions to his credit. David graduated from Glendale High School in 1967. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. In 1971, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Sociology from Missouri State University where he was a member of ROTC. David served in the United States Navy in California from 1971 - 1973 and was honorably discharged with the National Defense Service Medal. He also did graduate work in Philosophy and Religion at North Texas State and in Education at Missouri State University. Throughout his life, David loved to study and discuss art, music, history, religion, astronomy and philosophy. He is also remembered as an amazing athlete with powerful arms and a hearty laugh. He studied martial arts and was highly skilled at wrestling, karate, judo, jujitsu and kung fu. As a musician and composer David played guitar, attaining a level of skill with classical guitar that was astonishing and beautiful to behold. In addition he taught himself piano, harpsichord, and synthesizer. He composed and recorded original works on each of these instruments with titles such as "Entrance of God's Holy Glory" and "Music of God's Celestial Spheres". David was a devoted father and was immensely proud of his son Chris and his grandchildren Eli, Lao Elizabeth and Tai. David is survived by his mother, Joyce Rubert of Springfield, his son Chris RuBert and Amy of Chicago and grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and sisters and their spouses and children: Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, Des Moines, IA; Lao Rubert and Steve Schewel, Durham, NC; Elizabeth Rubert-Pugh and Sam Pugh, Des Moines, IA; Dr. Mark Rubert, Germantown, MD; and Pam and Russ RuBert of Springfield. David's nieces and nephews include: Shane Savage-Rumbaugh along with his wife Stacy Latt and their daughter Martha; Abe and Solly Rubert-Schewel; Heather Pugh; and Julia, Kira and Adam Rubert. David was preceded in death by his father Euell J. Rubert and his brother Rick Rubert. Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Hazelwood Cemetery with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. in First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
