David Dempsey Pike, Jr, 67, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his residence in Springfield, Missouri. He was born, January 9, 1948 in Springfield. He attended Central High School where he played basketball and graduated in 1966. He attended Crowder Junior College in Neosho, Missouri from 1966 to 1968 on a Basketball Scholarship and received his Associates Degree. He then transferred to University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri on a Basketball Scholarship from 1968 to 1970. He went to work for State Farm Mutual Insurance Company as an Estimator, Claims Representative, Agent and back to Claims until his retirement on March 31, 2005, with over 35 years of service. He was an avid sportsman of basketball, baseball, slow pitch softball and bowling. He loved to fish, pitch horseshoes, play dominos, and play bid whist and golf. He was preceded in death by his parents David "Dempsey" Pike, Sr., and Glyndolyn L. Pike; his siblings Clark K. Pike, Dwayne L. Pike, Jean M. Pike, and James Willson. He leaves to cherish his memory siblings Jane M. Pike, James L. Pike, and JoNell M. (Robert) Williams and sons Derrick D. Pike, Will Walker, Henry "Pee Wee" Walker and Charles "Tony" Walker. Other survivors are special cousins Orville "Duke" Winkfield, Juan Starks, Sr., Wayman (Butch) Pike, Jr., Effie Ann Pike-Johnson, Pam Waters, Cynthia (The Bear) Duncan. He also leaves to mourn his passing, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2015 in Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Comfort Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The "Cat Man" Will Be Missed!!!
