David Lee Hunt, age 75, of Springfield, MO passed away early Sunday November 9th, 2025. David was born July 24th, 1950 to Betty Woodmansee and Kenneth Norville in Monmouth, IL. He spent 35 years married to the love of his life, Judi Hunt and worked for General Electric for 33 years.
David loved his family and friends. He was always making thoughtful gestures. He loved finding beautiful flowers and clever gifts for Judi on their special holidays. He helped care for his mother-in-law, Jane in her last several years at their home.
He loved books, movies, music and trivia. He was always quick with a joke, was known at work for pulling elaborate pranks on his coworkers, and loved coming up with fun riddles for others to solve. He loved animals and making people laugh. He was very interested in science and nature and loved sharing his interesting findings and photos with others. He was known to spend months planning and creating elaborately thoughtful gifts for his family and friends. He had many talents including writings of poetry and stories under the pen name of John Vincent Stone.
He will be deeply missed by his children from his first marriage to Bonnie Black Wilkinson; Stephanie Sanders (Jay), Joseph Hunt, Kristina Cain, Kendra Hunt (Steve), Josh Hunt (Casey), Sarah Hunt (Chris), Emily Devarie (Edgar), his bonus children; Steve Huff, Wil Scarber and Alona Jackson and dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Frank Jr. and Anna Jane Ott and his first parents-in-law, Joe and Virginia Black. Joe made a profound impact on David's younger life. He is survived by his sister, Kathy Shine and brothers Tom and Teddy Woodmansee.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
Being the wordsmith he was, it seems only fitting to quote a few words from one of his writings:
"…although none of us survive the race, you have the ability to leave a void behind that shares warmth with others, a shadow (not to overshadow) but give comfort because they knew you, and a whisper in the wind when loved ones need to talk.
And me, remember to look at the stars once in a while."
