David Paul
Fuelling
August 5, 1934 – July 12, 2016
David Paul Fuelling, 81, Rogersville, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in hospice care at Mercy Villa in Springfield, MO. He was born August 5, 1934 in Cleveland, OH to Walter and Gertrude Fuelling. He later lived in Alma, MO and St. Louis, MO where he graduated from Lutheran High School.
David proudly served in the Army and Army Reserves. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1958. He married his wife, Marilyn on October 24, 1959. David started his career at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO. He and his family moved to Springfield, MO in 1963. He spent the majority of his career working for Frisco Railroad and later, Burlington Northern Railroad. David retired in 1997 after 30 years of service. In addition to his career, he maintained a small farm and raised cattle for many years. He was a deacon, active in the ecumenical men's breakfast group and Sunday school leader in the 49ers class at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. He was also a Boy Scout leader. David stayed active in his retirement years with the University Club and by volunteering his time to Springfield's Friends of the Library organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gladys Wilson.
He is survived by wife of 56 years, Marilyn, of Rogersville; his daughter Linda Fuelling-Jones, her husband, Julian Jones; granddaughter, Juliette, of Evanston, IL; his son Jeff Fuelling of St. Louis, MO; his sister, Phyllis Rolbes of Cleveland, OH; and his brother-in-law, Clyde Medley, Jr. of Dallas, TX. He was also survived by three nieces and one nephew.
Viewing will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole in Springfield, MO, Friday, July 15 from 1:00 – 5:00 P.M. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 East Cherry, Springfield, MO 65806, following the graveside service. He will be laid to rest in Maple Park Cemetery.
