Darla Rana Mefford-McCracken, 46, of Commerce, TX, passed away Sunday, January 18,2015, after a short illness at the Baylor University Medical Center, in Dallas, TX. Darla was born in Springfield, MO, on November 23, 1968, to Vernie and Nada Lorene Honeycutt Mefford. She grew up in the Springfield community and was a 1987 graduate of Glendale High School. She later attended Missouri State University. She was an employee at Walmart for a number of years before changing careers in 2003. In 2003 Darla and her family moved to Commerce, TX, where she and her husband, Joe founded and managed Bl2 Logistics, a transportation company. She was active in the local Commerce community, many civic organizations, and especially in the school actives of her children to whom she devoted her life. Darla loved music, having played violin throughout high school, and was a lifelong fan of country music. She was a big fan of the musical group Alabama, whom she met in person several times and traveled to see on many occasions. Darla also loved genealogy and enjoyed spending time researching family histories. She will be remembered for her strong loyalty, her sharp wit, wonderful sense of humor and incredible memoryespecially for funny stories of childhood antics with her friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Joe, of the home; her son, Taylor Mefford, of Commerce; her three daughters: Madison, Monroe and Jackson McCracken, all of the home; step sons Bryan McCracken, of Commerce, and Dallas McCracken, of Blue Springs, MO; her step daughter, Abbigail McCracken, of Fayetteville, AR. Also surviving are her mother and step father, Nada and Bob Cheek, of Springfield; her step mother, Rosie Mefford, of Crane, MO; her brother Dwight Mefford, of Springfield; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends, including special childhood friends, Laurel Smith and Joy Haynes Jones, both of Springfield. Visitation in Commerce was held Thursday evening, January 22, at the Commerce Funeral Home. Visitation in Springfield will be Sunday, January 25, at 2 pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at 1947 East Seminole Street in Springfield . A memorial service will follow at 3 pm with the Reverend Emily Bowen-Marler officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
