Daniel J. Thrall, age 90, of Springfield, MO passed away December 6, 2013 in his home. He was born April 8, 1923 in Alameda, California to Albert Henry and Sadie Gartlan Thrall. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943-1946 during WWII, where he was a Staff Sergeant, flight operator and part of the Air Transport Command- CBI- Flew Hump and was awarded two air medals. He married Dorothy Lee Sturm of El Cerrito, CA, on October 18, 1943 in Bellville, IL, where Dan was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. Dan began working at the age of 18 for Western Electric, a division of the Bell Telephone Systems, and after 42 years, retired as the area manager of Installation and Service Division of Western Electric Manufacturing and Supply Division of Bell System. While with the company, Dorothy and Daniel and children had lived in California, New York, Texas and Missouri. He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers, president of the Chamber of Commerce in San Leandro, CA and in the 70's was elected to Community Service Organization Bank in Marin County, CA. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Lee Walsh; son, Mark Daniel Thrall; and 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Lee Thrall; daughter, Carol Lynn Noble and her husband, Bob; six grandchildren, Brian Walsh, Becky Cunningham, Cari Noble Martens, Brad Noble, Cory Thrall and Travis Thrall; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with a visitation to follow. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery.
