Obituary

Dale Sims passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the Manor at Elfindale. He was born on December 20, 1928 in Zeigler, Illinois to Dock and Nancy Sims. He grew up in southern Illinois where he was active fishing and hunting and participating in all varsity sports.

Dale married Martha Ann Hall in 1946.

He graduated from Missouri S & T where he earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

He came to work at Springfield City Utilities in 1950. He rose to the position of Manager of the City Electric Department. During his tenure with CU he was instrumental in building both the James River and Southwest power plants. Following his service with the City of Springfield, he became General Manager of the Grand River Dam Authority in Oklahoma. Following this he worked as Facilities Manager at the National Lab in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He returned to Springfield upon retirement.

In his private time Dale became a private pilot and built experimental airplanes.

He was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul and a sister, Ruth Ann.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Martha; a son, David; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in his memory, may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of his son Paul.
