IN LOVING MEMORY OF
D. Patrick
Sweeney
August 19, 1958 – May 2, 2025
D. Patrick Sweeney, 66, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025.
Born on August 19, 1958, Pat was the son of Mary Catherine Weaver and John Joseph "Jack" Sweeney. A proud native of the Ozarks, he lived his life with deep commitment to God, family, community, and service.
Pat built a distinguished career as an attorney, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his integrity, dedication, and thoughtful counsel. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was an active and passionate member of the Springfield community. He served on various local boards and committees and found deep purpose through the Boy Scouts of America—a role he cherished and fulfilled with great pride.
Pat was a loving husband to Rena and a devoted father to Lillian, Catherine (Tyler Bennett), Rachel (Lachlan Moore), and Megan. He became a grandfather to Evelyn Bennett. He is survived by his brothers, Tim Sweeney (the late Vicki Sweeney and their son Ryan) and Mike Sweeney (Marisa Guerin), along with extended family and many friends who were like family.
He will be remembered for his sharp mind, infectious laugh, steady presence, and unwavering support of those he loved. Pat's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.
A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Springfield Brewing Company.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to support Alzheimer's Association. The family also wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the caregivers at The Fremont for their exceptional compassion and care during Pat's final chapter.
