D.H. (Jim) Whorton passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021.

D.H. was born to Ona and Dorsey Whorton on September 1, 1929 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma where he grew up and worked on the family farm. After graduating from Locust Grove High School, he enlisted in The United States Air Force in 1948.  On January 1, 1951 D.H. married Sue Wells. They had 3 children;  Gary (Karen), Russ (Pam) and Tani Banta (Chuck) all of Springfield.  In 1965 they moved their family to Springfield from Tulsa, Oklahoma to pursue his love of ranching.  In 1979, D.H. and Sue opened the first of 5 Whorton's Family Restaurants where many of their customers became lifelong friends.

D.H. is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sue; his three children; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will host a visitation on Friday, June 4 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO 65804.
