Obituary

Cory Alexander (Alex) Burkhart, son of Donna Mae (Christoffersen) Burkhart and the late James Ronald Burkhart was born February 18, 1963 and departed August 28, 2020 at the age of 57.

Cory was born in Kansas City, Missouri, later lived in Springfield, Missouri and then Gainesville, Missouri where he graduated from high school in 1981. He attended Graff Vo Tech in Springfield, earning his degree as an electronics technician, and worked in BioMed. He worked for several years at Cox Medical Center, where he met his wife Jeanne. They married in 1987 and were blessed with two sons. He later had a long career at the US Medical Center and retired from there in 2016. He continued part time BioMed work, starting his own business after retirement.

Cory enjoyed numerous hobbies and activities. He loved hunting, fishing and camping and many times invited friends and their families to share these experiences on the family farm and river. He enjoyed boating on the lakes and very much loved getting out for an afternoon ride on the motorcycles with friends. He hosted and played a mean hand of Texas Hold'Em and could make an excellent batch of home-brewed beer. He loved grilling and made some of the best steaks and salmon filet you would ever taste. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, but especially his Cardinals and beloved Chiefs. He was also a big history buff and loved traveling with friends and family to see the places he had read about and studied. He was not one to sit still for long and could often be found working around the "hobby farm" as he called their home. He was always quick to lend a hand if anyone needed help.

Cory was preceded in death by his father, James Burkhart.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (James) Burkhart of Ozark, MO; mother, Donna Burkhart of Gainesville, MO; his two sons Joel Burkhart of Ozark, MO and Benjamin Burkhart in the US Navy; sister, Tawny King and husband Scott of Jefferson, GA; nephews Tristan King and Quinlan King of Jefferson, GA; sister-in-law, Jo Prichard and husband Larry of Mountain Grove, MO; niece, Missy McClure and husband Johnathan and a host of cousins, extended family and many, many dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all.

Cory always had a soft spot for St. Jude's and the work they are doing for children. In lieu of flowers, a donation to them would be appreciated.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
