Connie Jean Light Barngrover passed away on May 6, 2016 after a 27 year long journey with breast cancer.
Connie was born July 23, 1940 in Omaha, NE to Millard A. and Marguriete Grigsby Light. Due to her father's occupation, the family moved frequently and Connie attended schools in Minneapolis, MN, Lakewood, CO, and Ardmore, PA, before graduating from Topeka High School, Topeka, KS. She was a graduate of Washburn University where she became a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority.
She was married to Larry G. Barngrover on September 1, 1962. To this marriage were born three children; Amy, Jill and Jon. The family moved to Springfield in 1978. She served the Presbyterian Church as a deacon and elder and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed many years of volunteering at Crosslines Food Pantry. Her greatest enjoyments were family, friends, travel and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William C. Light.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry Barngrover; children and spouses Amy and John Blakey, Jill and Brad Reynolds, and Jon and Terri Barngrover; grandchildren Kathryn and Rachel Blakey, Kailey and Natalie Reynolds, and Evan and Nathan Barngrover; sisters-in-law Joyce Light and Donna Jeter; and brother-in-law and his wife Jerry and Debbie Barngrover.
She leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Hulston Cancer Center and the caregivers from Hospice Compassus for their compassionate care.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10 am at Trinity Presbyterian Church PC(USA) at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1551 E Portland St, Springfield, MO 65804. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, from 5-7 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, 620 W Republic Rd, Ste 107, Springfield, MO 65807, or Crosslines Food Pantry, PO Box 3947, Springfield, MO 65808.
