Dr. Clifford "Cliff" Whipple, age 77, of Springfield, passed away at 2:32 p.m. on June 2, 2009, in St. John's Hospital. Dr. Whipple was retired from the teaching and practice of psychology. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and his Doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky. He taught psychology at Missouri State University for 23 years, and then taught at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. In addition to his teaching, he maintained a private practice in clinical psychology. He was a Diplomate and Board certified in clinical psychology. He was a past president of the Missouri Psychological Association and served six years as a member of the State Committee of Psychologists. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, and a volunteer disaster mental health professional for the American Red Cross. He is survived by his wife, Fran Whipple; daughters, Sherri (Greg) Koch, Denver, Colo., and Tanya Whipple, Springfield, Mo.; son Stan Whipple, Springfield; grandchildren, Laura Koch, Denver, Colo., and Joshua and Austin Belk, Springfield, Mo.; brothers, Fred (Betty) Whipple, Albuquerque, N.M., Henry (George Anne) Whipple, Kansas City, Mo., Leonard (Geraldine) Whipple, Louisburg, Mo., Bill Whipple, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Harvey (Bettye) Whipple, Lebanon, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Whipple; mother Evey Whipple; and siblings, Marie Bingham, Bud Whipple, Irene West, Myrt Loudermilk, Mary Daniels, Dwight Whipple and Edith Harrell. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Family Violence Center, 519 E. Cherry St., Springfield, MO 65806, or Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, 330 N. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO 65806. He was a loving husband, father and friend. Throughout his long career he touched many lives and will be forever remembered for his wit and charm.
