He was born June 23, 1931 in Bates County, MO, to Claus and Katherine Dykman, the sixth of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, his wife of 47 years, a daughter, and a son-in-law.

Clifford grew up on a farm in Bates County, MO where he learned the meaning of hard work, discipline, and the love of a large family. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He married the love of his life, Abbie Jane Lewis, on March 19, 1954 and they had seven children. Cliff loved being outdoors. When his family was young he always had a big garden. In his empty nester years he would spend a lot of time outdoors in his yard or hiking. He loved to hike the red rock mountains in Sedona, AZ where he and Jane lived for 18 years.

Cliff was an avid reader, a Cardinal's baseball fan, he loved rock 'n roll music, but also country, and he had a sweet tooth that he satisfied by baking cookies, peanut brittle, and his amazing fudge.
