Obituary

Clessie Catherine (Nelson) Oswald, age 96, of Ozark, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was born March 30, 1916, in Sparta, along with her twin, Jessie Ellingsworth Morgan of Ozark, who died six years ago. Their parents were James and Mattie (Bray) Nelson. Clessie married Don Oswald in 1944; he died in 2001. They lived most of their lives in Springfield. She worked many years at Lily-tulip. Clessie encouraged her two children, Beverly Stenger and Tony Oswald, to pursue their dreams. Later she became a constant cheerleader for her three grandchildren. She also made her church and Christian faith priorities. She was a longtime member of Cherry Street Baptist Church and more recently Second Baptist Church. Clessie is survived by her son, Tony, and his wife, Artell, of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Beverly, and husband, Neil Stenger, of Springfield; her granddaughter, Stacey Gold, and two children, Addison and Jack, of Springfield; her granddaughter, Amber Stenger, and husband, Russell Gray, and their three children, Russell, Nolan and Aidan Gray of Shawnee, Kan.; and her granddaughter, Holly Stenger. In addition to her husband and twin sister, Mrs. Oswald was preceded in death by her four brothers Clyde, Clell, Cecil and Claude Nelson and four other sisters May Vaughn, Pearl Weter, Vesta Gravelle and Ada Ballard. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff of Riverview Manor in Ozark for providing Mrs. Oswald with wonderful care during the last years of her life. No formal visitation is planned. A family graveside service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 24,2012, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery near Lake Springfield. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to Clessie Nelson Oswald Scholarship Fund at Missouri State University Foundation, 300 S.
