Obituary

Christopher Newton Cawlfield, 91, Springfield, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 in his home surrounded by love. He was born June 10, 1923 in Ash Grove, Missouri the son of Christopher D. and Alta Mae Cawlfield. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn Sanders on November 25, 1942 prior to joining the Army Air Corp. He served as a radio operator, flying "The Hump" supplying allied forces in China. After returning home, he attended University of Missouri at Rolla and earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree. Chris worked for the Frisco Railroad for over 30 years, rising to the level of an executive prior to retirement. His passions were his family and working with wood and metals in his shop. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kathryn Cawlfield, Springfield; son, John Cawlfield and wife, Connie, Battlefield; sister, Laur Nell Hall, Ash Grove; two grandsons, Sean Cawlfield; and Ryan Cawlfield and wife, Miranda; and great-grandchildren, Mikey and Chloe Cawlfield. The family would like to give a special thank you to Miranda Cawlfield and her team at Family to Family Health Care Services and Solutions for the dedicated and loving care they provided to Christopher for the past 5 years, as well as Omega Hospice Services for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Chaplain Darren Melugin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
