Obituary

Cheryl Renee Robinson passed away peacefully on the morning of May 29, 2020 at Cox South Health Center in Springfield, MO. She resided in Springfield for more than 25 years.

Cheryl was born in Kansas City, KS on July 23, 1953 to Delores June Robinson and Royster Cherry, Jr.   Unfortunately, their union was not meant to last.  Delores met Otto Robinson in 1954 and a new family emerged.  Otto Robinson and Delores married and he treated Cheryl as his own daughter.  She was truly a "Daddy's girl".  The only thing that troubled Cheryl was her last name was Cherry not Robinson like her "mommy and daddy".  Her dad asked Cheryl what she wanted for her 10th birthday and she told him that she wanted her last name changed to Robinson.  Later in life, Cheryl found out what her parents did to make her wish come true. Up until she passed, Cheryl believed that to be the best birthday ever because Otto Robinson, Jr. chose to accept her as his daughter by adopting her.

Cheryl's dad received a promotion/transfer and moved the family to Detroit, Mi in 1964.  She attended school in Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical H.S. in Detroit, MI.  Cheryl moved to Kansas City, KS in 1975 and stayed with her grandmother and grandfather. On November 30, 1975, Cheryl Robinson and Gregory Purifoy became proud parents to Gregory Mantell Robinson.  Cheryl worked as a teacher's aide and a pre-k teacher during this time.

Cheryl moved to Springfield, MO in 1987 and married Donald Daniels.  They had a son, Terrance William Daniels born on September 11, 1989 in Springfield.  Donald and Cheryl divorced in 1991.

Cheryl found love again and married Richard Baker in May 2000.  Unfortunately, they divorced in 2008.

During her years in Springfield, Cheryl was a very active member of New Hope International Ministries.  She loved to sing in the choir and served on the finance committee.  Her son Terry enjoys singing and listening to that same choir today.  Cheryl was also a proud member of the Springfield Community Choir when it was active.

Cheryl worked for AT&T for more than 20 years as a customer service representative. She was also a union representative.  She was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to retire in 2017.   During her retirement, Cheryl wanted to share her experiences in maneuvering through the courts and supporting individuals with disabilities.  She started to travel more and gained an interest in stones, gems and coins.  She also had dreams of opening an art gallery in Springfield.

Cheryl is survived by two sons, Gregory Robinson and Terrance Daniels; sister, Lisa Robinson; brother, Eric Cherry (wife).  She was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Robinson; mother and father, Delores and Otto Robinson, Jr.; fraternal grandmother, Alyce Jones; fraternal grandparents, Royster and Jean Cherry; maternal grandparents, MaryAnn and Isaac Moore; and a host of family and friends.  We also acknowledge the staff who support Terry and help him live as independently as possible each and every day.

Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 2:00-4:30 PM followed by a memorial service at 4:30 PM.
