Charlotte Cornish Collier of Springfield, Missouri, originally of Chicago, died on February 6, 2015 at the age of 91. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Gordon Collier, and her sisters Miriam Ewing Hammil and Rose Cornish Cassedy. She is survived by a son, John Collier (Sharon), daughter Catherine Gilpin (Phil), and grandchildren Jennifer Gilpin (Sarah Thompson), and Jesse Gilpin. She had a gift for making friends and will be missed by extended family members and friends of all ages. Charlotte's professional life was dedicated to young children, their families and their teachers. She served as a teacher and director of Early Childhood Programs and as a faculty member in the Human Services Institute of the City Colleges of Chicago. She was coordinator of Head Start Supplementary Training Programs and a lifelong active member and advocate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and president of its Midwest Chapter. After her retirement, Charlotte volunteered as a docent at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. Since coming to Springfield in the 1990s Charlotte was active as a volunteer in Springfield Public Schools, Parenting Life Skills Center and Christ Episcopal Church. She served as Outreach Chair of MSU's English Department Advisory Committee. Services will be held at 11 o'clock on Monday, February 16, at Christ Episcopal Church.
