Charles Edgar West, 87, passed away Sunday evening, November 3, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born February 16, 1937 in Mitchell, Indiana to Edgar and Frances (Martin) West.
Prior to retirement, Charles worked for EFCO Corporation in Monett, Missouri and Juvenile Shoe Corporation in Aurora, Missouri, managing their data processing department. He was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He had previously served in the United States Air Force in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Charles married Lillian Francka on November 15, 1958 in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Karlin, and she preceded him in death in 2000. They had lived in Lincoln, Neb., Enid, Okla., and Aurora, moving to Springfield in 1998. They had four surviving children and their spouses, Gary and Tami West of Davenport, Iowa, Susan and Lannie Lynxwiler of Reyno, Arkansas, Jo Ann and John Carpio of St. Louis, and David and Shelley West of St. Louis; ten surviving grandchildren and one surviving great grandchild. His five siblings preceded him in death: Bill, Eugene and Earl West, Kay Martin and Helen Harris. Charles later married Betty Engel on May 26, 2006, and she survives along with her son Jeff Engel and his wife Jacki of Seymour, Missouri and their two children Jefferson and Julianna.
Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield at 11AM November 8, 2024 with funeral mass to follow at noon with Father Thomas P. Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery at Karlin. Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Building Fund.
