Charles (Charlie) H. Ritter, age 76 of Springfield passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023. He was born September 9, 1946 in Ft. Scott, Kansas to James and Elsie (Garrett) Ritter.

After graduating from Summersville High School in West Virginia, Charlie joined the US Army. As a veteran of the Vietnam War, he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. After returning home, Charlie received his Bachelor's of Science degree from Drury University. He continued his life of service as a member of the Springfield Police Department for 35 years.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his wife Glenda (Harris) Ritter of Springfield, his dog Millie, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Charlie's family wishes to thank the Oncology-Hematology and Infusion staff at Mercy Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion, especially Dr. Jessica Snider.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
