Charles E. (Charlie) Presley, son of W.K. and Opal Presley, was born May 23, 1926 in Crocker, Missouri and departed this life on November 6, 2010. He spent most of his life in Springfield, Mo., moving here in 1948 from Crocker. He was a long time member of Central Christian Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of the Loyal Workers Class there. As long as he was able, he enjoyed attending the Men's Monday morning coffee fellowship. Charlie was in the Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines and Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a 43 year employee of Harry Cooper Supply Company, retiring in 1991. He loved his job and enjoyed working for the Cooper family. He was a member of Soloman Lodge #271 and received his 50 year pen in 2007. Charlie was united in marriage to Barbara Clark in 1947 and they had two children, a daughter Phyllis and a son David. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara; daughter, Phyllis Vinyard of Joplin; son, David and wife Peggy, of Springfield; four grandchildren, Brent Long, Mark Long, Leigh-Ann McGhee and husband Shoji and Adam Presley. He has three great-grandchildren, Gabe, Caleese and Liam. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Dale and wife Katy, of Springfield; sister Donna Hill and husband Bill, of Nixa; brother-in-law, John McClendon, of Crocker; and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Wanda and son-in-law Jack Vinyard. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1999, Charlie spent the last five years and four months a resident of the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mt. Vernon. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Charlie and made it a "home away from home" for his wife, Barbara. A graveside service will be held in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., in Central Christian Church with Reverends John Andrews and Don Brown officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Central Christian Church, 1475 N.
