IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Austin
Murdock
June 9, 1939 – December 5, 2020
Charles A. Murdock, age 81, died Saturday, December 5, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born to Charles and Virginia Murdock on June 9, 1939.
After attending college at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg and the University of Kansas City, Charles joined his father as a third-generation hearing instrument specialist. In 1968, he managed Suburban Hearing Aid Center in Oak Park, IL. Realizing that Chicago was not a place he wanted to raise his family, he started his own business "Murdock Associates Hearing Aid Center" in August of 1970 in Springfield. In 1993, he was appointed to the State Licensing Board and served on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Hearing Society for many years. Helping people hear better day by day was very gratifying to Charles.
Charles was a charter member of All Saints Anglican Church and actively served on the church vestry where he held the position of Senior Warden. Charles was a man of faith and loved seeing All Saints come to fruition and grow.
Charles had a zest for life—in high school, he would hitchhike down to his folks' cabin at Lake of the Ozarks. He spent many hours on Table Rock Lake, raced automobiles with SCCA, and after retiring decided he and Betty should take up snow skiing and made many trips to Winter Park, CO enjoying the sport with his family. He loved traveling, and his trips included Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, many of the European countries, Scandinavia and Russia. He also was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Tim Murdock and Jim Murdock. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty, and his two children, Charlene Whitlock and husband Scott, and Todd Murdock and wife Julie. Charlie was grandfather to five grandchildren, Benjamin Whitlock (Claire), Courtney Whitlock, Drake Murdock, Darby Murdock, Tatum Murdock and one great grandchild, William Charles Whitlock. He also is survived by one brother, Dan Murdock.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM at All Saints Anglican Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Social distancing will be observed and masks will be required. Because of COVID, there will be no visitation or fellowship gathering after the service.
