Charles E. Johnson, Sr., 88, Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in Cox Medical Center.  He was born October 8, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Edward and Clara Johnson.

A graduate of Lincoln High School, he was also a U.S. Veteran having served in the U.S. Army and completing a tour of duty during the Korean War.  He would later develop a love of bowling and participated in several leagues and tournaments.  He worked for several years at City Utilities in Springfield.

He married Joanna Ingram and to this union 10 children were born.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Johnson; mother, Clara Long; his wife, Joanna Johnson; one son, Donnie Eugene Johnson; and a nephew, Richard Patterson.

Charles is survived by nine children; six sons, Charles Johnson, Jr. (Karen) of Springfield; Michael Johnson (Ra-Chelle) of Springfield; Larry Johnson (Karen) of Elk Grove, CA; Kevin Johnson (Sharla) of Springfield; Jon Johnson (Pamela) of Springfield; and Robert Johnson (Gina) of Powell, OH; three daughters, Vicky Tucker (Jerry) of Springfield; Michelle Johnson of Springfield; and Therese Johnson of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Clara Patterson of Springfield; nephew, Harold Patterson, Jr.; niece, Jackie Patterson; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole, Springfield, MO 65804.  Graveside services with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
