Obituary

Charles J. Gallagher, 75, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Mercy Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1940 in Hawthorn, New Jersey, to Thomas and Mary Emma (Church) Gallagher.

Charlie grew up in Hialeah, Florida and attended Archbishop Curly High School. He attended college at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA and moved to Springfield in January of 1968. Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Bremer on June 12, 1971. To this union two sons were born.

Charlie was successfully involved in the sportswear industry as a supplier to Nike, Champion, Starter and other companies providing sportswear for the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Championship and NCAA sporting events. Charlie was owner of "The Sports Page" retail stores in Springfield, MO from 1980-1995. In 2013 he was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. During his career, he became actively involved in fundraising programs for the University of Missouri, Missouri State University, Springfield Catholic Schools, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield, MO.

Charlie was known as "the ticket man". He could obtain tickets to any event imaginable from sporting events to Broadway shows. He also enjoyed "Mizzou" Tiger sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas; and sisters, Estelle and Eileen.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary; sons, Shawn Gallagher and Brian Gallagher and his wife, Megan, all of Springfield; two granddaughters, Roxy and Mary Beth Gallagher; sister, Mary Hutchison and husband, Bill, Indiatlantic Beach, FL; mother-in-law, Lena Bremer, Monett, MO; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A prayer service will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please honor Charlie with a donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, Springfield Catholic Schools or the charity of your choice.
