Obituary

Charles B. Edel, age 91, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026.

Charles was born in Stafford, Missouri, and attended Springfield Senior High School, where he met his future wife of 60 years. During his school years, he was an active member of the Missouri ROTC and was involved in the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He later attended the University of Missouri, earning a degree in Agriculture, and was also a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Charles spent more than 50 years in the tractor and agricultural equipment business. He established the Edel Ford tractor dealership in Springfield and later expanded the business to include Kubota and John Deere, growing to become Ozark Power Center. Through his work, he developed lasting relationships with farmers and members of the agricultural community across the area, lovingly earning the nickname “The Tractor Guy.”

He was committed to serving his community. Charles was a 32° Mason and a proud member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, where he served as Potentate in 1979. He also devoted many years of service to the Ozark Empire Fair Board, including serving as its president. Charles was a longtime and faithful member of First & Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Madena Edel; his beloved wife, Suzanne (Short) Edel; and his sister, Patricia (Edel) Ball.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Edel (Pat) of Springfield, Missouri; his daughters, Clair Ross of Springfield, Missouri (Anthony, deceased), and Sally Jones (Rodney) of Austin, Texas; five granddaughters, Sally Amburgey (Scott) of Round Rock, Texas, Meghan McKinney (Jimmie) of Springfield, Missouri, Jennifer Schwoch (Luke) of Austin, Texas, Gretchen Watson (Grant) of Austin, Texas, and Suzanne Reyes (Rene) of Austin, Texas; and he was the proud great-grandfather of fourteen great-grandchildren.

Charles will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and his lifelong commitment to agriculture and the Springfield community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A Graveside Service for family and close friends will be Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM in Maple Park Cemetery.
