Obituary

Charles "Charley" Chappell passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born January 22, 1936, in Gridley, California to Con and Dorris Chappell.

Charlie was raised by his grandparents on a small farm between Burns and Halfway, Missouri, along with his eight aunts and uncles whom he considered brothers and sisters. After graduating from Halfway High School, he served in the U.S. Army.

Charley married the love of his life, Theresa in 1959. They raised their two children, Rand and Nan, in Springfield. During their marriage they enjoyed following their kids' and grandkids' activities, golf, socializing, and traveling the country and world.

Charley owned Chappell's Tires and ran his business for 50 years before retiring. He was also active in many other business activities, including livestock, agriculture, horses, and real estate.

Charley always enjoyed sports and competition. He was a good athlete and later enjoyed coaching youth sports and officiating. He played golf well and followed horse racing enthusiastically. He was a member at Twin Oaks Country Club for 50 years and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed both greatly in his final years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Chappell. He is survived by his son Rand and wife Molly Chappell, and daughter Nan Chappell; grandchildren Janiesa Johnson and husband Jason, Tiffany Bracamonte and partner Elizabeth Hobbie, Brittany Tomerlin and husband Clayton, Brooke Aubuchon and husband Matt, Lauren Chappell and Paige Chappell; nine great-grandchildren; nephews Stan Chappell and wife Peggy, Jim Thuston and wife Connie, and Roger Chappell and wife Farilyn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri.
