Charles A. "C.A." Stockton, age 90 of Springfield, MO passed away on June 22, 2015 in Springfield, MO. He was a member of the graduating class of 1943 Aurora High School. Served in the US Marine Corps from 1943 until 1946 during WWII as a Corporal assigned as a Tank Crewman in the Pacific Area of Midway. He received the good conduct medal as well as the Humanitarian Service and Honorable Discharge Buttons upon release. He retired in 1987 after working 41 years for KPL Gas Service, (now Laclede Gas Company) as Division Superintendent in Monett and Lee's Summit. He was active in the Monett Lions Club, and American Legion Post 91 and served as a Boy Scout Troop leader for Troop 38 of Monett for several terms. He received the Silver Beaver Leadership Award from the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow. He also served, as a member of the Sertoma Club of Springfield, MO, was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church as well as various community and civic organizations. He was instrumental in helping the Monett Chamber of Commerce develop industry related incentives that provided many jobs through companies locating manufacturing plants in Monett, MO. He enjoyed camping, gardening, golf and traveling in his spare time. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen (Hendrix) Stockton, Springfield, MO, two daughters, Janet Nickell of Olathe, KS and husband Mike, Rhonda Galbraith of Springfield, MO and husband Bill Wills as well as two sons, Stanley Stockton of Lexington, KY and wife Kim and Bruce Stockton of Joplin, MO and wife Ann. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Albert and Lydia (Haworth) Stockton, three sisters, Clarice McCann, Susie Pendleton and Mary Horton and one brother, Orvel Stockton. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scout Troop #38 in Monett, MO or Sertoma Club of Springfield through the funeral home.
