Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Banta Jr, 70, of Springfield, Missouri, son of Charles "Charlie" and Margaret Banta, peacefully began his journey to heaven on November 25th, 2024. Chuck achieved many accomplishments throughout his life with the most bountiful being his children, Lindsay, Chase, and Tessa.

Chuck began his athletic career at Parkview High School in Springfield. He lettered in Varsity Football, Basketball and Baseball. He continued his athletic journey with a full-ride football scholarship to the University of Missouri. He lettered varsity for 3 years and started as strong safety for 2 years. Chuck was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Chuck was inaugurated in 1976 into the Mystical Seven, a senior men's honorary society at MU recognizing students who gave freely of their time and efforts for the betterment of their community. These valuable principals continued throughout Chuck's life.

After college, Chuck moved back to Springfield to work at his family business, Banta Foods. Eventually he bought the business in 1989. He grew Banta Foods from a local food distributor to one of the largest foodservice companies in the US achieving national recognition.

Chuck served on many boards in the Springfield community and national boards within the foodservice industry. Chuck was a long-time member of Hickory Hills Country Club and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was an active member of AA for 30 years.

Chuck engaged in many hobbies and enjoyed traveling. He had a strong love for the outdoors and being on the water with his loved ones any chance he had. He especially enjoyed his summers with his kids at Table Rock Lake where he taught them to ski and fish. Growing up in the Ozarks allowed him to float and fly fish the local rivers often. He also enjoyed golf and hunting trips with his family and friends.

Chuck fought a long battle with head and neck cancer. He handled these difficult obstacles with grace and humbleness. Chuck truly displayed genuine kindness toward others with a listening ear and support to many.

Chuck is preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret and Charlie Banta and sister Cathy Lindstrom. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Tani. They both always believed God brought them together at just the right time. His children Lindsay, Chase and Tessa (husband Alfredo). The mother of his children Beth Banta. His Sister Barbara (Barry) Bell and Brother in-law Roger Lindstrom. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephew; Greg (Beth) Lindstrom, Meg (Brent) Offerdahl, Amy (Joe) Berra, Allison (Brian) Abrahams. Two beautiful grandchildren Lucille and Josephine. Tani's daughter Amber (Kelly) Hurst, son Preston (Lauren) Lancaster. Along with eight loving grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home on December 1st, 3:00-5:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on December 2nd at 10:00am with a celebration of life immediately following in the Father Reidy room. A private family graveside burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital or Holy Trinity Catholic Church in his honor.
