Charles A. Bacon, age 76, of Springfield went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. He was born July 12, 1936, in Bolivar, Missouri, the son of Clifford and Alma Hood Bacon. Charles was a graduate of Bolivar High School and Draughan's Business University. He retired from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after 43 years of service. He was married to the love of his life for 49 years, Marilyn Skaggs Bacon, on November 30, 1963. Charles was a faithful member of Glendale Christian Church for 49 years. He loved his church and had a servant's heart. After retirement, he and Marilyn spent the last 13 winters in South Texas. He made many friends there, where he enjoyed playing pool and shuffleboard. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Diane Bacon Crawford and husband John of Avon, Ohio and Debbie Bacon of Branson, Missouri; two grandchildren JD and MacKenzie Crawford of Avon, Ohio, who fondly called him "Pappa"; his three brothers Bill (Pauline) of Mesa, AZ, Robert (Betty) of Warsaw, MO and Clifford of Harrisonville, MO. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He has finished his race, and he has received his prize of an eternal life in Heaven. While we are saddened by the loss of his earthly life, we rejoice when we think of him finally praising God personally for eternity. Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. A celebration of life will be Friday, February 15, 2013 in the funeral home with Seth Wortman and Sid Allsbury officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Charles' name to Glendale Christian Church, 2110 S. Blackman Rd, Springfield, MO 65809.
