Obituary

Charles R. "Chuck" Bachus, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 28, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dee; and his three children and their spouses, Rich and Jana Bachus, Randy and Pam Bachus of Springfield, Rhonda and Mike McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as nine grandchildren, Rachel, Janelle, Trevor, Reagan, Ryan and Erin Bachus and Mitch, Mason and Miller McCoy. Chuck lived a full life and was loved by many friends and family members, including his extended family members at SMC Pkg. Group and his buddies at Twin Oaks Country Club, "the Adult Day Care Center". The family would like to publicly thank Chuck's "Earth Angels", Dr. Scott Clarke, Ruth Ann Rhea RN. of Hospice Compassus and his dear friend, Jim Keeter, all of whom provided much love, care and support. Chuck was a native of Oklahoma and excelled in baseball and football at Northeastern Oklahoma University. He served our country and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return from Korea he entered the corrugated box business and married the love of his life, DeLinda Kay Melton. They moved to Springfield shortly after their wedding and he continued working in the "box business". He and his dear friend, Ross Ausburn, formed Southern Missouri Containers, Inc. (SMC Packaging Group) in 1971. Chuck lived the American Dream and was famous for his sense of humor, larger than life personality and his generosity to many different organizations. He had a deep faith and a committed passion for his community, giving freely of his time. He served on many boards throughout the Springfield area participating in as many as 11 civic boards simultaneously. He was named the "Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser" for the year in 1999 and was the recipient of the Boys and Girls Club "Man and Youth Award". He loved this community almost as much as he loved God, family, friends, golf and his country. With Chuck's passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated, although we will miss him every day, he will remain forever in our hearts. Through his teaching about life, many were able to create wonderful memories and it has been a privilege to know and love him. There will be a private family service with military honors on Friday morning. You are welcome to join Chuck's family for the visitation this Friday, July 31 in Second Baptist Church from noon to 2 pm. A celebration of his life will follow immediately after the visitation under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to two of Chuck's favorite charities: Boys and Girls Town Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield 1212 W. Lombard 1410 N. Fremont Ave. Springfield, MO 65806 Springfield, MO 65802
