Obituary

Charles J. Babb passed away peacefully Nov. 9, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer at Cox South Hospital with friends by his side.

He was born May 3, 1962 to William J. Babb, Jr. and Judy A. Hale Babb in St. Joseph, MO. When he was 4 years old, the family moved to a farm near Willow Springs, MO, where he grew up. In Oct. 2010, he met Susan Humphrey Duncan. They married in Las Vegas on July 17, 2011 and enjoyed six happy years together.

Though he was legally blind, he never let his vision issues stop him from accomplishing anything he set his mind to. When he was young, he worked as a farm hand and logger. He also trained to be an auto mechanic. He made his career as a Tax Assistance Specialist and Field Office Manager for the IRS. One of his greatest joys in life was helping customers. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed playing the lottery, going to casinos, hunting, fishing and spending time with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, son Anthony Layton and wife Melanie, grandchildren Riley, Lynsie and Maximus, and siblings William Babb III, Cindy Wagner, Jimmy Babb and Johnny Babb, as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cox South ICU, who gave my husband outstanding care during the last days of his life.

A memorial service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on November 26 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from noon to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Industries for the Blind at https://ifbsolutions.org/donate.
