Charlene Fay (Toombs) Cantrell, a lifelong resident of Springfield passed away Monday, October 31, 2011. She was a graduate of Central High School in 1940 and attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. She retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company accounting department after 23 years in 1987. After retiring, she loved traveling abroad; joined several groups, The Bridge Center, Friends of the Library, Drury Mature Learners, she was an usher for 18 years at Hammon's Hall and enjoyed oil painting with Riki Lipe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Newcomb Toombs; her husband, William H. Cantrell; her infant daughter, Kelly Lane; and five brothers, Cecil, Lester, James, George and Earl Toombs. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Cantrell Keller (Michael), Marshfield, Missouri; a son, William M. Cantrell (Joyce), Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; 19 nieces and nephews and many friends. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.at The Montclair, 1000 E. Montclair, Springfield, MO in the community room. Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 4 p.m. at The Montclair. The interment will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation to Season's Hospice, or your favorite charity. The family would like to offer a special thanks to all her friends and family, Season's Hospice, all the associates at The Montclair, employees at Magnolia Square, and Dr. Brian Rekus.
