Obituary

Catherine "Cathy" Lynn Wagner Terwelp, age 72, of Kansas City, MO passed away on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025. Cathy was born on August 25th,1952 in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Ed and Virginia Wagner. Cathy graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School in 1970 and then attended Longview Community College, earning an Associate's Degree in Accounting.

Cathy married Tony Terwelp on August 19th, 1995, at St. Regis Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Turner officiating. Throughout almost 30 years of marriage, Cathy was a loving and faithful partner to Tony. She enjoyed sitting by his side, cheering on the Chiefs, and hosting game nights with friends. Some of their favorite memories included attending countless shows at the New Theater Restaurant and gambling at the casinos.

Cathy worked as the Vice President of Accounting at Growth Industries for 44 years. She took pride in her long tenure and all the work she did for the company. She never considered working anywhere else since her coworkers became her second family.

Cathy was one of the most optimistic persons you'd ever meet. Her bubbly personality was infectious and brightened up any room she was in,  mirroring one of her favorite characters, Tigger. She enjoyed decorating her home and office for each holiday and often wore festive headbands and hats, which made everyone around her happy. Cathy was a selfless person who would always put the needs of others before her own.

Cathy was an avid reader from multiple genres and enjoyed getting caught up in stories whether they were on the page or on the screen.

Cathy was a wonderful baker and brought joy to her family members and friends by creating birthday desserts for them.  Whenever family came to visit, Cathy would make sure to have all of their favorite foods ready.  Her Christmas goodies were famous and anticipated all year.  Her cinnamon bread was a special treat. If you didn't act fast, the apple muffins, puppy chow, and snack mix would be gone.

To Cathy, family was the most important thing. She welcomed her stepchildren into her heart and extended family, and treated them as her own. Cathy was the daughter of two loving parents whom she could always reach out to for guidance, support, and hilarity when she needed it. Cathy was the sister to two brothers and their relationship resembled the playful rivalry you would expect. However, she could hold her own and Cathy's strong affection for her brothers would never waver. Cathy was a proud aunt and loved sharing in the joys of the large and small moments in her niece and nephews' lives. Her two grandchildren brightened her day with each photo and FaceTime video. Cathy could also be described as the permissive parent to many fur babies over the years that she spoiled rotten. For confirmation just ask Rudy, Schatzi, KC, Lucy, Scooby-Doo, or Snickers. And yes, they are family too.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Tony; stepchildren, Steven (Amanda), Kevin, and Sara (Mike); grandchildren, Hannah and Benjamin; brother, David; niece, Megan (Eli); nephews, Jason (Crystal), Darren (Robin), Nathan (Katie), Zachary, and Matthew.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Virginia, and her brother, Mike.

The family would like to thank the staff, doctors, and therapists at St. Luke's for their care and attention.
