Carolyn J. (Compton) Fay age 86 of Springfield Mo. passed away Dec. 27, 2015 in her home.

Carolyn was born Aug. 3, 1929 in Columbia Mo. She graduated from Drury College summa cum laude 1951 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was honored by membership in Who's Who of American Colleges. She was also honored by the Springfield Jaycees as Outstanding Woman of the Year 1964. In 2010 she received the lifetime award for her 50 years of service as a charter member of the Springfield Symphony Guild.

She served as president of many civic, educational, and social organizations. She was a member of the Christian Church. She was manager of several retail stores and was also a prolific seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Mabob Compton, her husband of 39 years Forrest "Doc" Fay and her granddaughter Emily Fay.

Survived by sons Forrest "Rick" (Tracy) Springfield, Frank (Cindy) Strafford, daughter Felicia (Steve) Whitaker, Springfield, grandson Forrest "Buddy", Springfield, brother Dr. Kent A. Compton (Bernie), nieces Cara and Cristin, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tues., December 29, 2015 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Wed., December 30, 2015 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
