Carol Joan Kohls was born on April 9, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Walter and Erna Pfau. She graduated from Grossmont High School in San Diego, California and received a Bachelors Degree from Woodbury College in Los Angeles. She fell in love with and married John A Kohls and they raised three children in San Diego, California. She worked as a preschool teacher for 20 years and served as church secretary at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Upon John's retirement as a Chula Vista Police Captain, they relocated to Republic, Missouri. In retirement they traveled the country with Laborers for Christ building Lutheran schools and churches. Carol began a Senior Adult Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church following John's death in 2000. Carol is survived by her children: Dawn Oldenettel (Ron) of West Bend, WI, Lynn Cole (John) of San Diego, CA, Jeff Kohls (D'Ann) of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Phyllis Vorhies of San Diego, CA and Merilyn Gardner of Milwaukee, WI; 7 grandchildren, Heather Kingery (Jake), Daniel Oldenettel (Leah), Joshua Oldenettel, Kelli Servatius, Jennifer Servatius, Morgan Kohls and Jenna Kohls; and great-grandson, Owen Kingery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 17 at 9 a.m. in Lindsey's Cemetery in Republic, MO followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church.
