Schroff, M.D.
October 20, 1929 – July 7, 2016
Carle H. Schroff, M.D., 86, passed away early Thursday morning, July 7, 2016, in Springfield, Missouri, after a courageous decade battling Parkinson's disease. He was born on October 20, 1929 in Sikeston, Missouri to Margaret and Highland Schroff. He was the second son in a family of six boys.
Carle grew up in Hiawatha, Kansas, playing every sport. After graduation he went off to college. He attended Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, transferred to the University of Kansas and earned a degree in Physical Therapy. He then was drafted and served in the Army at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War. He and Jeaninne Willis were married in 1953 and have spent 63 years together. They were "a team".
After discharge from the service, Carle and Jeaninne returned to Kansas City and Carle entered medical school. He graduated in 1959, did an internship at General Hospital in Kansas City and then moved his family to Springfield, MO, to start his medical practice. Dr. Schroff practiced Family Medicine for 35 years. He was loved by his patients and was a kind, caring and proficient physician.
Carle served on many boards and clinics in the community. He was a longtime member of the Cox Hospital board and also served as President of that board. He was a member of King's Way United Methodist Church, Hickory Hills Country Club and served many years with Meals on Wheels after retirement. He loved golfing with friends, was an avid KU basketball fan and enjoyed going to the lake with his wife, children and grandchildren. Friends were especially important to him and he was loved and admired by many.
Carle was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Robert and Richard. He will be missed by his wife, Jeaninne; their daughters, Pam Finley and husband Brent Finley, M.D., Karen Pope and husband Kevin Pope, M.D., Sandy Geisinger and husband Mike; son, David Schroff and wife Lisa; nine grandchildren, Scott Pope and wife Allison, Michelle Pope Kelly and husband Chase Kelly, D.D.S., Sean Finley and fiancé Kelsey Nill, Clay Finley, Brooke Geisinger, Mallory Geisinger, Andrea Schroff, Spencer Schroff, Nolan Schroff; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Pope. Carle is also survived by brothers, Charles and wife Mary Jane Schroff, Jim and wife Mary Beth Schroff, John and wife Mary Margaret Schroff; two sisters-in-law, Grace Schroff and Gerrianne Schroff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at King's Way United Methodist Church, Springfield, MO, at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2016. Private inurnment will be held prior to services at King's Way Methodist Church Columbarium under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
