Carl Myron Witt, Sr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 in Westside Health Care in Springfield. He was born October 18, 1924 in Galva, IA, the son of Carl and Echo Stephenson Witt. He grew up in Mapleton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1945. Following his military service, he started a trucking company and later expanded into other transportation industries including taxi cabs and air freight in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was married to Ernestine Nobrega and to this union two children; Jim Witt and Sandy Luse were born. He later married Ida Gutierrez. He and Ida had five children, Carl, Clark, Dwight, Michelle, and Garrison. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ernestine; and a granddaughter, Rita Witt. Carl is survived by his children; a sister, Saralene Earsom; his second wife, Ida Witt; sixteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with Chaplain Brandon Gardner officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Private burial will be later in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors. The family would like to express appreciation to Regional Hospice and Christian Healthcare for their love and care.
