Carl Andrew Renie was born February 11, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Andrew and Carrie Renie. He passed away on January 10, 2013 in Mercy Villa. He attended Kansas City schools, leaving home in 1945 to join the U.S. Navy. Following the end of World War II, he came to Springfield to attend SMU, graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1951. His Master's degree was earned at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. Carl began his professional career as a 6th grade teacher at Weaver school in 1950. He became a teaching principal at Ritter School in 1954. This was followed by principal assignments at Berry, Bowerman, Delaware and Horace Mann schools. He also taught continuing education classes for Drury University for many years. A lifetime member of the NEA, Carl served at one time as President of SEA teacher group. A member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, he served at times as a deacon, elder and chairman of the Christian Education Committee. He and his wife Jeannette, were members of the 49ers Church School class, joining in 1950 at the time of their marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Matthew Renie. Survivors are his wife Jeannette, who resides at the Cambridge apartments, and their two children; Dr. Wm. Andrew (Andy) Renie and wife Judy, Baltimore County, MD; Annette Wilson and husband Bill, Dallas and San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law Mary Helen Crow, Springfield, MO; sister-in-law Betty Renie, Kansas City, MO and four grandchildren David Renie, Paul Renie, Alexia Wilson and Charlie Wilson. No formal visitation is planned however; friends may call after 1:00pm Monday in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Private family burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the children's programs at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church 820 E. Cherry, Springfield, MO 65806 or a charity of your choice.
