Carl S. Horton Sr., 81, Springfield, MO, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 in his home.  He was born January 22, 1935 in Springfield, MO to Frank A. and Florence (Brugger) Horton.

He grew up in Springfield, graduating from Springfield (Central) High School in 1953.  Carl served honorably in the Air Force from 1953-1957.  Carl was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 65 plus years.  He worked as an electrician for Aton-Luce-Liedy Electric and Sweetheart Cup for 40 years, retiring in 1997. He participated extensively in scouting for more than 20 years, including earning the Silver Beaver citation in 1991.  He was an active member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five of his siblings and their spouses; Frank and Sheila Horton, Jack and Mary Horton, Virginia and Joe LaScala, Dick Horton, Catherine and Dorm Ferrell; and his brother-in-law and wife, Jim and Rose Byrnes.

Carl is survived by Judy, his loving wife of 53 years; their children, Carl Jr. and wife Xenia Horton, Frank, III and wife Rose Horton, Alice Horton, Joseph and wife Helen Horton, Mark Horton, April Marler, Tim and wife Kodi Horton, David Horton and Chris Horton; fourteen grandchildren, Samuel Borden; Hunter Horton; Alena Stambaugh-Weisz, Crystal Weisz, Britany and Doug Fox, Andrea Horton, Maria Lucero, Madison Horton; Carleigh Marler; Alexis Horton, Victoria Horton, Sam Horton; Jonathan Horton and Jaxon Horton; and three great-grandchildren, Breanna Stambaugh, Lilah Smith and Liam Scherff; his siblings and their spouses, Bill and Mary Horton, Clara Horton, Pat and Bell Horton, Barbara and Bernard Francka, Charlie and Linda Horton and Mary Ann Horton; family friend, Virginia Mayeux; "oldest daughter", Katy (Fender) Ogle; and in-laws, Joe and Connie Bynres and Jane and Bill Kristek.

Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, January 19, 2017 in St. Agnes Cathedral with Father Lewis Hejna celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday in the church with a Rosary to follow at 8:00 pm.  Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Cathedral, 533 South Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65806.
