Loving Memory of Vernon Carl Cotner.
Carl departed this earth on August 21,2026, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on December 15,1935 in Salem, Missouri.
In July1953, he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps. He loved his country and carried that pride with him always. Carl was a man who never met a stranger. He loved people, loved to laugh, and loved telling jokes. When he walked into a room, his smile, laughter, and warm personality could light it up. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, and he left them smiling. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. His love of people also made him a natural salesman. From 1972 to 1999, Carl worked at KTTS, where he was a salesman and well-known for his hunting and fishing report. After retiring from KTTS, he continued working at Springfield Auto Auction, delivering vehicles for several years. Carl was loved not only by his family, but also by his many friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his two daughters, Vicky Shockley and Carla Schernberg, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his brother, Jim Cotner, and several nieces and nephews.
Carl’s laughter, kindness, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Carl. Your laughter echoes in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
