Obituary

Carl Alcancia, 54, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away December 9 with loved ones at his side. He is remembered as a selfless husband and father, a loving son and brother, and a loyal friend.

Carl grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Catholic High School in 1984. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance in 1989 from Saint Louis University where he was a member of the tennis team during all four years of college. Carl worked as an office manager in his father's medical practice before starting his own Springfield business in 2002. Carl took great pride in running his own business and always made sure to greet his customers with a warm smile and professional service.

Carl married the love of his life, Katherine Vetter, in 2010. He was a devoted husband, and the birth of his three children only made his heart grow bigger. He was an affectionate, nurturing, and soft-spoken father who loved planning fun excursions for his family, including frequent trips to Branson and Silver Dollar City. Carl had a special way of "making memories" out of everyday moments.

He was a man who lived his faith and was a devout member of the Catholic community at Immaculate Conception Church for most of his life. Carl was involved in a Cursillo prayer group and fulfilled a biweekly perpetual adoration commitment. He helped lead a group called Fellowship of Catholic Young Adults and was a teacher in the Parish School of Religion (PSR). Carl was also an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Carl was very loyal and was like a brother to his friends. He had a gift for making others feel special. He is remembered for his playful and gentle spirit and his passion for drumming and playing tennis.

Carl is survived by his wife, Katherine Alcancia, and children, Eva, Elena, and Ian; his sister, Grace Kappel (Patrick), and niece, Sophia Delap. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Elpidio "Pete" Alcancia and Isabelita Alcancia.
