Obituary

Carl W. Albers, age 80, of Springfield, MO, died peacefully with his family around him on June 17, 2012, at James River Care and Rehabilitation Center. Carl was born to Carla and William Albers in Secaucus, NJ, on November, 15, 1931. He is survived by his wife, Lolita, and children, Tracy Ansley (husband John Ansley) and Nathaniel Albers (wife Rebecca Wells-Albers) and granddaughter Wren Ansley; nieces, Maryam Afif (husband Fred Wendt), Shameen Afif-Rider (husband Rob Rider) and brother-in-law Peter Afif. He was predeceased by his parents, twin sister, Carla Afif and brother, Alan Albers. Carl graduated from New York University and received his master's degree from and did additional graduate work at Columbia University. He served in the US Army and army reserves from 1956 to 1962. He taught history at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY, for approximately 30 years where he met Lolita when she joined the faculty. They married December 18, 1966, and lived in Tuckahoe, NY, until he retired. They lived briefly in Rhinebeck, NY, and then moved to Springfield in 1996. The number of people who helped Carl during his final days are too many to list here, but the family especially thanks the staff at James River Care and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice Compassus. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, June 21, with the Reverend Suzy Lynch officiating, at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield. Visitation will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation, P.O. Box 760, Springfield, MO 65801-0760 (www.thelibrary.org) or New York Public Library (www.nypl.org).
