Obituary

Captain James E. (Jim) Thompson, Jr. passed away on January 20, 2014 in Cox South Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on February 15, 1932 in Springfield, MO. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James E. and Lillian O. Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia Anne Thompson of the home, and a brother and sister in-law in Philadelphia along with several nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Judy Brombeck, in Stockton. Jim graduated from Senior High School (Now Central High School) in 1949. He attended Drury College (now Drury University) where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, and graduated in 1953. He served a total of 27 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and the USNR, Public Affairs, retiring as a Captain. Jim spent several years as a photographer for the Associated Press at Springfield-News-Leader. For 18 years Jim was Executive Vice-President of the Greene County Medical Society, with a membership of 800 physicians. After retiring, Jim was an Independent Contractor for Humana Health Care Plans. Jim also founded Med-Image, Inc. a public relations firm for physicians. Jim served as an Independent Contractor, Business Advisor, to establish Armored Car Service and Security Patrol Services for Springfield and Branson banks, businesses, resorts, and theaters. At the same time he also operated an Investigations Services Company. A date and time will be announced for a Visitation and Memorial Service at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
