Obituary

Calvin was born October 12, 1942, and passed peacefully in his home August 5, 2022 from Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Springfield, Missouri, the first son of Virginia "Sis" and James "Jim" Holland Keet Jr.

Calvin grew up in Springfield, graduated from Greenwood Highschool, and received his undergraduate degree in the English Honors program at University of Virginia  graduating Magna Cum Laude. In 1965 he married his first and only wife Toni Cook, and went on to Northwestern University where he majored in English and at the age of 22 he received his Master's Degree and PHD in Philosophy.  He served as an Army captain at Fort Benjamin Harrison where his daughter Jeneffer was born. After leaving the army, Calvin became one of the pioneering English professors for the newly established California State University Bakersfield, where his son Chris was born. In 1978 he left Bakersfield to pursue his artistic and acting careers and moved between Venice Beach, California and Volcano Hawaii until settling in Hawaii in the nineties. He taught special education in Hawaii and was a massage therapist and lover of life and the outdoors. He always loved to travel and had special connections with people around the globe. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he moved back to Springfield to keep his independence and to be closer to his daughter and granddaughter.  Calvin spent over 5 years thriving with Alzheimer's and continued to create art in various forms including painting and sharing his thoughts as "wisdom nuggets" online.  In 2017 he adopted his dog "Sweet Boy" and they were inseparable for the rest of his days. Calvin was an artist who had an eye like no other, the biggest heart they could fit in his body, and was beloved by everyone who set foot in his life.

Calvin is survived by his beloved "Little Brother" Jim (Hoppy) Keet and his wife Margaret, Little Rock, Arkansas; his daughter Jeneffer, Springfield, Missouri; son Christopher and his wife Jenny, Carpinteria California; 3 grandchildren Harley, Maddox and Jack; his former spouse and lifelong friend Toni Mackie; his nephews Tommy and Jake and his nieces Chase and Cassie; and friends spanning the world and special connections tied to California and Hawaii.
