Obituary

Burney F Taylor, age 95 of Springfield, MO, passed away November 26, 2024. He was the born son of Fred and Ethel Taylor in Collins, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kathy Taylor. Burney is survived by his daughters, Jean Taylor, Nixa, MO and Rebecca Taylor, Mathews, NC; son, Jim Taylor and wife Eydie, Kimberling City, MO; grandchildren, Sean Franson and wife Gayle, Portland, OR, Justin Burton and wife Jamie, Concord, NC, Mathew Burton and wife Amy, Ft. Mill, SC, Patrick Burton and wife Brittany, Winter Park, FL, Lauren (Taylor) and husband Chris Roberts, Springdale, AR, Amy (Taylor) and husband Austin Vincent, Kansas City, MO, Adam Taylor, Houston, TX, Rachel Taylor, Springdale, AR; along with great-grandchildren, Mila, Alena, Eliza, Aubrey, Isaac, Owen, and Lilah.

Burney was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 52 years. Burney and Kathy moved their family to Springfield in 1972 where they raised their three children. Burney managed Tire Distributors tire store for the next twenty-two years, retiring at the age of 65. Retirement lasted one week. He began a second career with Home Parenteral Services delivering prescription medicines to homebound patients. Burney loved traveling the backroads of Missouri delivering medicine. He retired twenty years later at the age of 85. Burney was recognized for his service with an award for driving over one million miles without an accident.

Burney was a Korean War Veteran. He served as a Sergeant in Army Artillery. He spent 18 months overseas and received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, U.N. Service Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Japan).

He enjoyed traveling with Kathy; visiting London, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Hawaii and other locales. He also enjoyed many family vacations at Sunset Beach, NC, along with boating and camping on Table Rock Lake.

Burney was very proud of his three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family. Burney and Kathy were married for over 71 years.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Funeral Services will follow at 9:30 AM in the church with Reverend Moser officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
