Brady Orville Chandler, Jr, age 90, of Springfield, MO passed away at 6:27pm on Friday August 12, 2016 peacefully in his sleep at home with loved ones by his side.
Brady was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII on the USS Thetis Bay in the Pacific. Brady is a retired Springfield Fire Department Captain, serving the city of Springfield for over 30 years.
Brady was an active life-long member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, where his parents were founding members. He served as Church Elder and Deacon for many years.
Brady had a long involvement with various Boy Scout troops in Springfield. He was a youth leader before WWII at Camp Arrowhead in Marshfield, member of Order of the Arrow, performing on their dance troop, a very proud Eagle Scout, and continued serving the Boy Scouts through his adult life as Scoutmaster for a troop chartered by First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Brady married first wife Doris Turner Chandler in 1947 and had 56 years with her before her death in 2003. On February 10, 2007, Brady was fortunate to marry his current wife of nine years, Elba Jane Chandler. Brady and Jane had so much fun going to activities at the senior center and spending time together.
Brady is survived by wife Elba Jane Estes Chandler, daughter Cynthia Chandler Clayton and husband Fred Clayton of Springfield, daughter Patricia Chandler-Newport and husband Mark Newport of Keego Harbor, MI, stepson David Estes and wife Marilyn Estes of Clever, stepdaughter Debbie Pierson of Springfield, grandchildren Chloe Newport, Zack Newport, Chris Estes, Ben Pierson, Ryan Estes and Andrea Estes, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home Sunday August 14 from 6:00-8:00pm.
Burial will be held Tuesday August 16 at Hazelwood Cemetery at 12:00pm, memorial services to follow at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brady Chandler's name may be made to Boy Scouts of America, or to First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
