Obituary

Bonnie Lou (Lively) Dawaliby, Springfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 7, 2009, after a short illness. She was born June 25, 1929 in Crane, Missouri to Melvin and Holly Lively. After graduating from Crane High School in 1947, Bonnie went on to St. John's School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. She worked many years for St. John's Hospital and for Dr. Eugene Schwartz. Bonnie was united in marriage to Jim Dawaliby in 1965. Together they built their life together on Hilltop. After retiring she continued to volunteer at St. John's, worked in the kitchen for the Springfield Public Schools and helped with daycare at a local fitness center. Bonnie enjoyed the outdoors, camping, traveling and singing with the Sweet Adelines. She always had a special place in her heart for her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Dawaliby; her parents, Mel and Holly Lively; and a sister, Josephine Pennington. She is survived by her three children, Ellen Hedrick and her husband, Dave; Lisa Stracke and her husband, Edward; and Jimmy E. Dawaliby and his wife, Becky. Bonnie had four grandchildren, BJ Hedrick and wife, Jennifer; Michael Hedrick; Nathan and Katelyn Stracke, all of Springfield. She also had five nephews, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Lou Hedrick. A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel on Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a short service to follow. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thank you to Community Hospice and everyone at Primrose Place for their loving care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38116 or the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood, Springfield, MO 65804.
