If you listen you can hear the soft, sweet sounds of Bobby's pedal steel guitar as he plays from the cloudy realms of heaven above, Bobby left his earthly family, friends and beloved dogs on July 9th, 2012, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Hayden, CO on June 19, 1934, Bobby is survived by his wife Marilynn; four siblings, Ben, Raymond "Butch", Diana and Shirley; three children, Paul, Kacey and Dene and their families; and many grand- and great-grandchildren. Bobby was preceded in death by his mother Mildred and father Delbert; his foster parents, the Art Chatfields; and a baby brother. In his youth, Bobby developed a great love for the pedal steel guitar. He was fortunate to play for house bands in Grand Junction, CO, sometimes traveling with 50's entertainers, Lefty Frizzel, Jim Reeves and Carl Perkins. In the early 60's after moving to Denver, CO, Bobby was privileged to play behind some of the popular stars of the time such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Marty Robbins and Carl Smith. Bobby's "day jobs" during the years included truck driving, grocery store managing, and heating and air-conditioning service. In the 80's he owned and operated his own steel guitar/guitar business in Springfield, MO, known as Brentwood Music Co. Here he enjoyed meeting and playing with local musicians, many of whom became lifelong friends. Bobby's unexpected passing leaves an ache in the hearts of all who loved him. Friends may wish Bobby farewell and greet the family at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2012. Burial services will be held in Hayden, CO on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the Humane Society of MO, or the charity of your choice. Our thanks go out to the staff of Mercy Hospital, 7D for their compassionate care of Bobby in his final days.
