Obituary

Bobby Gene Bedell, 78, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in his home. He was a lifetime resident of Springfield, Missouri, he graduated from Lincoln High School, 1953. Bobby retired from Burlington Northern/Santa Fe/Frisco Railroad after 23 years of service. After retiring he was employed as a Bus Driver with Springfield Public Schools. He also was employed at St. John's Hospital for 5 years, Lily Tulip for 16 years, and Litton Industries for 5 years. Bobby was a longtime resident/manager for John B. Hughes Apartments. He was a member of Greater Metropolitan Church, where he was a Trustee, Usher, and played the drums. He also attended Dayspring's Church in his neighborhood. Bobby was from a family of many accomplished musicians and singers. He played with Dallas Bartley and Bebop Brown and was a regular performer playing drums for Park Day Events. One of his favorite songs that he sung was "Misty", a jazz standard. Bobby enjoyed hobbies of repairing lawn mowers and fishing. Bobby was known for his kindness to everyone. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Bedell; son, Terrence Mark Bedell; Brothers, Herley Arthel Bedell, Jr. and Earl Marvin Bedell; sisters, Alma Certain and Joann Wilson; grandson, Terron Finley; and stepson Andrew Campbell. He is survived by his Children: Roxanne Taylor, Robert Bedell, Rhonda Mwangachuchu, Vanessa Joyner, Karen McEniry, Emmitt Bedell, and Renita Strickland; Grandchildren: James Bedell, Michael Corey Bedell, Vanessa Thompson, William Bedell Jr., Terrell Corby, Erika Joyner, Christopher Bedell, Alexis Lurten, Barnett Thompson, Renita Mwangachuchu, Renee Mwangachuchu, Ceandrea Strickland, Michael Strickland; and Stepchildren, Evan Jr. Campbell, Theodore Campbell, and Mary Ann Mitchell. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Reverend Zacqrey L. Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. The repass will follow at Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church, 600 N.
