Obituary

Billy (Bill) Morton, 76, of Springfield, passed away August 16th in Mercy Hospital after a long, courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Bill was born May 26, 1938 in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Strafford High School in 1956 and then entered the Air Force, where he worked on the weapons and radar system of the F-105 Thunderchief. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1963 he married Dorothy Wollard. They were married for 51 years. Bill was artistic, and mechanically inclined, which led to a 30 year career with NCR. After retiring he enjoyed illustration, scratch built modeling, Wednesday morning coffee with his NCR buddies, watching Cardinal baseball, and spending time with his family. Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy and two children and one grandson, his son Brad and wife Cindy and their son Devin, his daughter, Kimberly McClain and husband Casey. He is also survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will be Wednesday, August 20, at 9:00 a.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Commemorative Air Force, www.commemorativeairforce.org.
